QSO Plays Elgar - Caloundra

7pm, Friday 16 March 2012
The Events Centre Caloundra

Conductor Nicholas Braithwaite
Harp Marshall McGuire

Like so many of Haydn's named symphonies, no one quite knows how the Symphony No 88 came to be nicknamed The Letter V. None of this matters when you hear the blend of wit, charm and inventiveness of this wonderful score. Elgar's Enigma Variations, another quintessentially English masterpiece, immortalized his affectionate portraits of tweedy eccentrics but the noble strains of the Nimrod variation are among the most moving and beloved English music ever composed. Marshall McGuire, an extraordinary harp player, plays Boieldieu's Harp Concerto with a lyricism that will delight.
