Violin Esther Yoo
Sibelius Finlandia
Sibelius Violin Concerto
Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet Suite
The sight of young artists fearlessly conquering concertos which strike fear into the hearts of much older players is familiar now, but 17 year old Esther Yoo's heart-stopping blend of confidence and bravura tempered by poise is indescribably exciting, especially in Sibelius' Violin Concerto.Esther
recently came to international attention when she became the youngest prize
winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition in 2010, taking
third prize aged 16. With its dark brooding opening, song-like slow movement and restlessly dancing finale, it's widely regarded as the most taxing in the repertoire. Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet is one of the greatest scores of the twentieth century, whose transcendent "symphonic" qualities make it widely performed in the concert hall where it never fails to move audiences with its power and eloquence.
