Teenage violinist set to perform with Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) has announced 14 year old violinist In Yi Chae as the winner of the 2016 English Family Prize.
The Kuraby based violinist will perform the first movement of Max Bruch’s Concerto No.1 in G minor Op.26 with the QSO in the Meet the Symphony concerts on Wednesday 11 May at the Conservatorium Theatre, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
With the support of Australia Pacific LNG, as part of the Gladstone Enrichment through Music (GEM) Initiative, this concert will be filmed and used as an educational resource for music teachers in Gladstone.
The English Family Prize is an annual competition for secondary school music students in Queensland. The prize is named in honour of the English Family and their commitment to the development of exceptional young musicians. There was a record number of 36 applicants in this year’s competition with six finalists selected to perform at the Finalists’ Recital on Monday 29 February at the QSO Studio, South Bank. The finalists included emerging talents performing concerto movements for violin, cello, alto saxophone and clarinet.
Thanks to generous donations from the English Family, each finalist received a cash prize ranging from $500 to $5000 to assist in their further music studies. The Anthony Camden Foundation and the National Instrument Bank, Music Council of Australia, also awarded a finalist the loan of an instrument for 12 months.
