In Conversation and Rehearsal Series: Epic Sounds
Thursday 24 June 2021
At 17, William Barton thought he had realised a lifelong dream when he was invited to perform with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO). Just over 20 years later, this proud Kalkadunga man, ARIA-award winner and distinguished artist of extraordinary musicality will perform with the QSO in a powerful concert event to premiere his new work, Apii Thatini Mu Murtu (To sing and carry a coolamon on country together).
On Thursday 24 June 2021, QSO hosted an insightful conversation with William Barton, The Honourable Anthe Philippides, QSO Board Member Tony Denholder and QSO Chief Executive Craig Whitehead. Moderated by ABC Radio Brisbane’s Loretta Ryan, this sit-down provided an opportunity to discuss William’s new work, while also discussing topics such as music education, the language of music, and how we define Australian classical music.
Apii Thatini Mu Murtu (To sing and carry a coolamon on country together) is commissioned for Queensland Symphony Orchestra by The Honourable Anthe Philippides.
