Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition’s 25th Anniversary brings extraordinary young piano talent from throughout Australia & New Zealand to Brisbane.

GRAND FINALS of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition & Festival and Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition will be held on 13 July at 6pm. Six Finalists from the Senior and Young Competitions will perform with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Benjamin Northey before a 5 member International Jury chaired by Barry Douglas CBE. Information on all 11 Competition Jurors and the full program of activities can be found on the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition & Festival website.

Now in its 25th Anniversary Year, the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition & Festival has been a beacon for extraordinary young music talent from Australia and New Zealand, and a celebration of wonderful piano music since 1999. Despite Covid lockdowns the 2021/22 Competitions introduced the inaugural Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition and Festival for younger pianists from age 12, held concurrently with the senior Competition.

As a result of this achievement, and in line with the ethos of the esteemed Lev Vlassenko Piano Academy, the 'Young Lev' initiative has been seamlessly incorporated into the upcoming 2024 Competitions and Festival. This event will encompass engaging activities for participants of the Little Lev Piano Academy and Festival, which was held in 2023 for aspiring pianists between the ages of 6 and 12. The overarching objective is to cultivate a passion for piano playing among individuals of all age groups.

In 2024, the 'Young Lev' and the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition & Festival have had the privilege of hosting nearly 100 talented pianists who have auditioned from various regions across Australia and New Zealand. The First Rounds will take place in June at prestigious venues in Sydney, Auckland NZ, Brisbane, and Melbourne. The festival will kick off in Brisbane on 5 July with the Opening Recital and Semi-finals Weekend, followed by a week of activities showcasing the 2024 Semi-finalists and Little Lev members. These activities will include masterclasses and recital performances by esteemed International Jurors Barry Douglas CBE, Jania Aubakirova, and Etsuko Terada.
