Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the 27th edition of the Young Instrumentalist Prize (YIP), a competition designed to encourage talented Queensland secondary school students along their music pathways. This competition has launched the performing dreams of many young musicians. This year 42 applicants have auditioned and seven finalists have been selected to perform.

The 2026 Young Instrumentalist Prize finalists are:

Liam Beak (Violin)

Louis Cheung (Trombone)

Honoka Hidai (Bassoon)

Ellie Kyoung (Violin)

Kexin Li (Violin)

Iroha Matsui (Viola)

A winner will be determined from this recital and will be given the opportunity to work with Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2027. All seven finalists will receive a combination of cash prizes and complimentary tickets to QSO concerts of their choosing. This recital will include a performance by 2025 Young Instrumentalist First Prize Winner, Patrick Phillips.
