Lynn Rainbow-Reid AM

Lynn has supported QSO for many years through Annual Giving (where funds are directed to our greatest need) and is currently a member of the Umberto Clerici Circle.

What is your favourite memory or experience with QSO?

Perhaps not my favourite experience but certainly a memorable one was a Maestro performance with a violin soloist. A string on the violin snapped and the violinist stepped off stage to replace it. The conductor turned to the audience immediately and started telling a joke that had the audience in fits. Sadly, before he reached the final punch line, the soloist returned to the stage – I never did find out what the punch line was!

Why is it important to you to support QSO?

The arts are in my blood, and I honestly don’t know how anyone can live without music in some form. Music feeds our soul and helps us to express our feelings and emotions and emotions in this moment. We must support the creation and performance of music to ensure it can continue to do this. If someone said music is not allowed anymore, we would either find a way to circumvent that and continue to create or die.

What would you say to those considering supporting QSO?

Do it! There is no question in my mind that you should. Do it because you love it, not to gain recognition.

Who is your favourite composer or what is your favourite piece of music?

I love all the usual suspects but strongly encourage orchestras to try new things too.

One early memory that stays with me is that at about 17, I went to a Bach organ recital at Notre Dame in Paris. The whole cathedral was lit by candles. It was the most magical experience – the awesome music in a stunning atmosphere. In fact, I’m going to make a special detour to Paris in July with two friends from school days just to see Notre Dame restored as it would have been in medieval times with that majestic organ!
