Queensland Symphony Orchestra is seeking to appoint a Coordinator – Education and Community to support the delivery of programming and activities that connect people across Queensland with the wonder of live orchestral music. The Coordinator is responsible for the planning and administration that underpins the successful delivery of education and community programs at QSO. Working to connect schools, community organisations, artists and regional partners, this role contributes to programs that make orchestral music visible and accessible to students, educators and audiences across Brisbane and regional Queensland.

This position reports to the Manager – Education and Community and works within the Artistic Planning team, which oversees QSO's programming and artistic planning activities.

Major responsibility areas:

  • Support all pre- and post-planning activities for QSO community, regional touring and music education activities

  • Coordinate all necessary arrangements for the artists, conductors, choirs and other personnel engaged for QSO community, regional touring and music education activities, including day to day and travel requirements during their engagements

  • Coordinate engagement with organisations and individuals for the delivery of community and education programs 

Major Activities include:

  • Coordinate with partner organisations, agents and artists to plan all elements of the activity periods (including rehearsal and travel schedules)

  • Liaise with tertiary and school education institutions and schools to ensure alignment with their programs, ensure alignment with current curriculum and school priorities, and increase engagement with QSO activities

  • Liaise with musicians, schools, community organisations and other stakeholders to enhance QSO education and community activities as required

  • Create, update and share education activities documents as required for relevant interdepartmental use, including season planners, budgets, marketing copy, presentations, QSO IT systems, and other documents

Selection Criteria:

  • Diploma or higher education qualification in a relevant field such as Music, Arts Administration, Business

  • Demonstrated experience in arts and/or event coordination

  • Experience working with musicians or other performing arts organisations

  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Excellent computer skills including Excel and databases such as customer or operational management systems

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team

The ideal applicant will have a strong interest in Classical Music or in the Arts more broadly, be motivated to work towards shared goals and will contribute ideas for the improvement of work processes.
