Gladstone, Australia - Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) and Gladstone are gearing up for another exciting year of the Gladstone Enrichment through Music (GEM) Community in Concert. This captivating event on 7 November at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre will showcase the remarkable musical prowess of QSO’s Connect Ensemble, and the Gladstone Combined Schools Maestro Concert Band, String Ensemble, and Orchestra.
The Gladstone Enrichment through Music (GEM) Initiative is supported by QSO Principal Partner Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG), operated by ConocoPhillips. APLNG CEO Dan Clark expressed his enthusiasm for QSO's regional engagement efforts, stating, "Queensland Symphony Orchestra's regional engagement enriches the lives of students, teachers, and communities, providing unparalleled opportunities to enjoy, learn from, and perform alongside the state's best musicians. We believe that everyone, no matter where they're from, deserves to experience the transformative power of music. Queensland Symphony Orchestra truly is an Orchestra for all Queenslanders, and we are delighted to play our part in helping them fulfill that vision."
Under the baton of Stefanie Smith (Band) and Loreta Fin (Strings), QSO’s Connect Ensemble will captivate the audience with their exceptional musicality and artistry. This ensemble comprises 14 talented musicians from QSO, who are dedicated to fostering musical excellence and sharing their passion for music with audiences of all ages.
The Gladstone Combined Schools Maestro Concert Band, String Ensemble, and Orchestra will also take the stage, showcasing the remarkable talent of over 250 local students. This free concert will showcase students from Bernaraby State School, Boyne Island State School, Calliope State School, Calliope State High School, Clinton State School, Gladstone Central, Gladstone West, Kin Kora State School, Miriam Vale State School, Tannum Sands State School, Tannum State High School, Toolooa State High School, and Chanel College. These young musicians have been diligently rehearsing under the guidance of their dedicated teachers, and their performances promise to be a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Craig Young, QSO Cellist and creator of QSO Compose (a mentoring program for school-aged orchestra composition), will be our esteemed host of the event. Young will guide the audience through an unforgettable evening of music, highlighting the unique contributions of each ensemble and celebrating Gladstone’s community and their musicians.
