Born and raised in Brisbane, Gregory completed his Bachelor of Music with Advanced Performance study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He learnt viola from David Deacon and Graeme Jennings, before moving to Melbourne to study at the Australian National Academy of Music with Caroline Henbest. During this time, he played as Principal Violist with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Queensland Youth Symphony.
Gregory’s professional performing career took off when he won a casual position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in his final year of study in 2015 before returning to Brisbane in 2016 and beginning casual work with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Since then, Gregory has been a guest artist with groups such as Ensemble Cherubim, Cadenza Chamber Players, the ensemble/band Topology and has toured across vast regions of Australia both performing and educating with Musica Viva in Schools. In late 2018, Gregory began work with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber orchestra where he worked frequently before becoming an Artistic Associate with the ensemble in 2024.
Beyond the stage, Gregory is a devoted teacher, having taught violin and viola privately since 2007, and regularly mentoring at schools and workshops around Brisbane. He performs on a 2007 viola crafted by Trevor Liversidge.
