Exceptional musicians are invited to apply for the role of Section Principal Flute with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Position:Section Principal Flute

Remuneration: Salary range of $106,188 - $111, 019 plus 12% superannuation. In addition, you will receive instrument and clothing allowances of $1,816.55 per annum. QSO also provides a comprehensive instrument insurance scheme, health and wellbeing programs and the Orchestra enjoy generous leave entitlements that include five weeks annual leave plus a paid mid-year break of a minimum of nine days.

Eligibility:This position is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and those with Australian permanent residency status.

Tenure:Permanent full-time, upon successful completion of a 6-month trial period.

Section Structure:The flute section will be comprised of one Section Principal Flute, one Associate Principal Flute and one Principal Piccolo

Location:ABC South Bank, 114 Grey St Brisbane, Queensland.

Applicants may be required to submit a short recording as a preliminary round. Repertoire requirements for the preliminary round will be sent shortly after applying.

Highly experienced candidates will be advised if they are eligible to progress directly through to Round 1. An accompanist will be provided for live auditions. Applicants unable to attend a live audition are encouraged to submit a recorded audition. Guidelines on recording requirements are available for download via Musical Chairs.

Position Description

The general duties and work requirements of a Section Musician are to:

  • work in accordance with the terms of this agreement
  • play the instrument(s) for which the musician was auditioned

In addition to the duties of section musicians, the Section Principal Flute will also:

  • prepare and play the first part of the section and relevant solos of the repertoire.
  • lead and direct the section
  • take responsibility for style, intonation, balance, ensemble, rhythm and preparation of the section.
