Dušan Walkowicz has been a permanent member of Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Bass section since 1996.
Dušan began playing the double bass in his native Czech Republic, where he completed a Performance Diploma.
After moving to Australia, he continued his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Max McBride and Kees Boersma. He was later accepted into the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he studied with Professor Josef Niederhammer and Herbert Mayr, Principal Double Bass of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. During his studies Dušan participated in numerous masterclasses and undertook private study throughout Europe and North America. He also performed at international music festivals in Israel and Japan.
Following his return to Australia, Dušan successfully auditioned for Orchestra Victoria and, one year later, for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, where he has held both Tutti and Associate Principal positions. Since then, he has also appeared as a guest musician with professional orchestras throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Alongside his orchestral career, Dušan is an active chamber musician with a strong passion for music education. He is a member of the teaching faculty at the Queensland Conservatorium.
Outside music, Dušan enjoys travelling and alpine skiing.
