Heather Shannon
Composer
Heather Shannon is a brilliant and dynamic musician. After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor in Piano Performance, she became best known for her work as one quarter of internationally renowned independent rock band, The Jezabels. Shannon has spent most the past decade writing and recording award winning albums and performing in venues such as Sydney Opera House, The O2 Arena (London), Webster Hall (New York) and at festivals such as Lollapalooza (Chicago), and Glastonbury (UK).
However, the scope of Shannon’s work is as wide as it is deep. Her latest orchestral piece ‘Sequence and Variation’ was recorded by The Metropolitan Orchestra, and conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, at the ABC centre last year and performed by the orchestra at Petersham Town Hall in 2017. She recently participated in the Nes Artist Residency in the North of Iceland, developing a collection of piano pieces that explore the effects of synthetic sound on acoustic writing. She explains, "I find it creatively inspiring to look at the points where synthetic and acoustic sound sources meet, and to compose in that context”.
Add to this, her commissioned compositions, film scores including for independent Australian film ‘Broke’ and session work for the project ‘A Version of Now’, a release by Peter Garrett.
