Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the 26th edition of the Young Instrumentalist Prize (YIP), a competition designed to encourage talented Queensland secondary school students along their music pathways. This competition has launched the performing dreams of many young musicians. This year 46 applicants have auditioned and 6 finalists have been selected to perform.

The 2025 Young Instrumentalist Prize finalists are:

Honoka Hidai, Bassoon 

Daniel Hsieh, Marimba 

Ellie Kyoung, Violin 

Haydn Li, Viola

Patrick Phillips, Cello 

Gabin Won, Flute

A winner will be determined from this recital and will be given the opportunity to work with Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2026. All six finalists will receive a combination of cash prizes and complimentary tickets QSO concerts of their choosing. This recital will include a performance by 2024 Young Instrumentalist First Prize Winner, Eric Kim.

The Young Instrumentalist Prize is proudly supported by the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ADFAS), Brisbane and YFG Shopping Centres.
