Curtain Call: Peter and the Wolf
A joyous day of music and giggles
Blog ·

From 4 to 6 June, Queensland Symphony Orchestra welcomed schools and families into the QSO Studio for a special concert of Peter and the Wolf.
Led by conductor Jen Winley and hosted and narrated by Ed Le Brocq, the dynamic duo along with the orchestra guided audiences through the three featured works: Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee, and Matthew Hindson’s Dancing with Dinosaurs.
Winley introduced the audience to the art of orchestral conducting, giving them the chance to try it themselves while the music played.
As Peter and the Wolf unfolded, each character was brought to life through a different instrument, helping to tell the story of a courageous young boy who sets out to capture a wolf.
The audience delighted in identifying each animal in the story through its associated instrument. The bluebird by a delicate flute melody, the cat by the slinky clarinet, the duck by the oboe, Peter’s grandfather by the bassoon, the wolf by the horns, and the hunters by percussion.
Audiences of all ages enjoyed the experience, with a new generation discovering the wonder and magic of a live orchestra.
