On Sunday 21 June, a small gathering of Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians joined together with audience members at QSO Studio for Chamber Players 2.
Journeying through a captivating program of reflection, rhythm and colour, the afternoon began with Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, showcasing its meditative beauty, weaving simple motifs into a work of profound stillness and intensity.
We then moved on to the Australian premiere performances of Bernardo Alviz’s Decisión y Escarmiento and Danza de barro, bringing a vibrant contemporary sound to the stage, exploring striking contrasts of energy, texture and movement.
To close the afternoon together we jumped into George Benjamin’s Viola, Viola with QSO violists Bernard Hoey and Gregory McNamara at the helm, showcasing virtuosic interplay and rich musical conversation. Then entered Roussel’s elegant Serenade, a luminous chamber work that blended flute, strings and harp into a sound world of warmth, grace and shimmering colour.
A wonderful afternoon spent together in this intimate concert setting, getting to know our QSO musicians showcasing an exciting array of music.
