Craig Zonca

Saturday Host

Craig Zonca

Craig Zonca sets his alarm for 3.10am to co-host the popular Breakfast program on ABC Radio Brisbane.

He’s one of the most recognised voices on radio in Queensland with more than 15 years behind the microphone for the ABC.

A naturally curious person, Craig lives to tell stories. He’s interviewed thousands of people, including prime ministers and premiers along with the stars of stage, screen, and the sporting field.

Craig’s covered political scandals and natural disasters but it’s the spontaneous, unexpected, unscripted and adrenaline pumping moments that fuel his love for live radio. It’s an environment where you never quite know what will happen next.

He’s hosted radio programs from all parts of the State and beyond – from remote cattle stations of Queensland’s Gulf Country to the top of the Story Bridge and even from the flight deck of a US Navy ship.

Away from the ABC studios, Craig regularly volunteers his time for several community organisations and he’s a board director of the Red Rose Foundation.

Craig grew up in Rockhampton and subjected his neighbours to the sounds of a young boy struggling to master ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ on the trumpet. His 18th birthday was spent on stage at the Queensland Brass Band Championships singing Johnny O’Keefe’s ‘Shout’ with the backing of the Capricornia Silver Band.

Over the years, Craig has also played in pub rock cover bands, folk bands and has even strummed along to accompany the odd bush dance. He’s currently learning the entire Wiggles back catalogue on guitar to entertain his young daughter Molly.
