Daniel Chiou

Daniel Chiou is a Melbourne based cellist and has remained an avid solo, chamber and orchestra musician since graduating from the Australian National Academy of Music in 2022. He has been a founding member of many ensembles, including the Islay Trio and the Archer Quartet where they have received mentorship by members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Liaison and Tinalley String Quartet. Daniel has performed with orchestras such as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. He will also tour with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy across Germany and Belgium in 2023. Other recent highlights have included performing Schumann’s cello concerto at the semi-finals of the ANAM concerto competition and co-directing Hindemith’s der Scwanendreher with Lawrence Power. Daniel has received mentorship from artists such as Johannes Moser, Li Wei Qin, Timo-Veikko Valve, Umberto Clerici and cello extraordinaire Howard Penny.
