Olivia Spyrou
Viola

Olivia is a passionate young violist, born and raised in Melbourne. From 2023-2025, they studied Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University whilst under the tutelage of Assoc. Professor Michele Walsh.
In 2024, Olivia was awarded the Harmer Memorial Scholarship for viola and the Ross Peters 4MBS Chamber Prize. A passionate chamber player, they have performed with a wide variety of ensembles, including chamber music side-by-sides with Cuarteto Quiroga and the LA Philharmonic Wind Quintet. Olivia was awarded the John Curro Viola Prize (2024), and in 2025 went on to perform York Bowen’s Concerto in C minor for Viola with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.
Olivia has always found a deep passion for orchestral performance. Their orchestral journey began back in 2019 with the Australian Youth Orchestra. This year marks Olivia’s seventh year with the AYO, and their first year as principal viola of the flagship orchestra. In April, Olivia is set to perform alongside the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as AYO’s viola fellow for the orchestra’s Professional Immersion Program. And in May Olivia travels to Canada with their piano trio, to perform at the Musical Chairs Chamber Music Festival, Montreal.
