Rachel McDonald

Rachel McDonald is a writer and director with a background in classical music. Productions directed include La Voix Humaine for Opera Australia, La Traviata for OzOpera national tour, Queen Lear for Melbourne Theatre Company, The Pianist for Belvoir/Sydney Festival, The Taming of the Shrew for Sydney Theatre Company, The Magic Flute for West Australian Opera and Rusalka for Perth Festival. Rachel was the first Artistic Director at Freeze Frame Opera where she directed La Boheme, Pagliacci, Tosca, and the award-winning Angels and Devils.

Writing credits include Haydn Speaks for Australian Haydn Ensemble, Truckorama for Freeze Frame Opera, Jane Austen, and Venetian Carnival for Musica Viva national tours, a new script for Die Fledermaus and Susanna’s Wedding, a contemporary adaptation of Le Nozze di Figaro for a cast of 6.

Rachel lives on Whadjuk Noongar country in Perth and teaches acting, script writing and directing at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
