Javier Perianes performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3

Pre-Concert Talk: Saturday, 6:30pm | Door 1, Concert Hall, QPAC hosted by Matthew Hodge

We begin the evening with one of Beethoven’s most electrifying works, his Piano Concerto No. 3. Sophisticated, expressive, and charged with passion, this masterpiece comes to life through the artistry of renowned Spanish pianist Javier Perianes. Expect intensity, elegance, and the unmistakable stamp of Beethoven’s genius.

Following this stirring performance, prepare for the grandeur of Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra. You might recognise its famous opening from 2001: A Space Odyssey, but its origins lie in a bold response to Nietzsche’s philosophical novel. Epic and thought-provoking, Strauss’s tone poem invites you to reflect on existence itself amid soaring orchestral drama.

As a special treat for our Saturday audience, we’ll also perform Ravel’s glittering La Valse. Step into the spirit of 1920s Paris with this mysterious and playful waltz. Is it satire? Is it celebration? Ravel leaves that up to you, but either way, it’s a dazzling dance through light and shadow.
