Beethoven & Strauss

Javier Perianes performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3
Pre Concert Talk on Saturday at 6.30pm Door 1 Concert Hall at QPAC, with Matthew Hodge.
You may recognise it as the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey, but Richard Strauss wrote Also Sprach Zarathustra long before that film hit the cinemas. It was his response to a philosophical novel by Nietzsche, so feel free to contemplate the meaning of life when you listen to these triumphant tones.
Then, we’ll welcome celebrated Spanish pianist Javier Perianes to the stage for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3. Sophisticated, expressive, and full of fire, it’s a chance to hear one of today’s finest pianists bring Beethoven’s genius to life.
If you enjoy a bit of bonus content, come along to our Saturday concert for a special performance of Maurice Ravel’s La Valse. Straight out of 1920's Paris - Is La Valse a satire, or an innocent little dance? You can be the judge when you hear it. It’s buoyant, charming, and the quirkiest waltz you’ll encounter.
