Jason Klarwein was most recently seen in Ben Hackworth’s debut feature CELESTE which premiered at the 2018 Melbourne International Film Festival.
Jason’s television credits include ILLUSION 5 for Hoodlum and AACTA winning Foxtel’s series, DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND, which picks up the story of Fred Schepisi’s classic feature THE DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND, ABC’s AUSTRALIA REMEMBERS, Network Ten’s CYBERGIRL, the final series of SEA PATROL on the Nine Network, and the FOX8 series, SLiDE.
Jason Klarwein is a seasoned theatre performer and has appeared in many productions for the Queensland Theatre Company including HEDDA, RILEY VALENTINE AND THE OCCUPATION OF FORT SVALBARD, THE ODD COUPLE, THE SEAGULL, FRACTIONS, ELIZABETH, ALMOST BY A CHANCE A WOMAN, MACBETH, THOM PAIN, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, BASH, MAD HERCULES, GOD IS A DJ, THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, PHAEDRA, THE FORTUNES OF RICHARD MAHONY, SHOPPING and F$$$ING, THE TRAGEDY OF KING RICHARD THE SECOND, AN OAK TREE, DESIGN FOR LIVING, in the title role of MACBETH by UK acclaimed director Michael Attenborough, and most recently TWELFTH NIGHT and ONCE IN A ROYAL DAVID’S CITY.
Jason has also appeared in THE GLASS MENAGERIE, COSI and HALF AND HALF for La Boite Theatre; Wesley Enoch’s PAUL and CAPRICORNIA, and MARALINGA (co-production with Alphaville) for Company B; A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE for the Sydney Theatre Company; HENRY IV for Bell Shakespeare; and THE TRIAL, MONKEY, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, OTHELLO, RICHARD THE THIRD, THE WINTER’S TALE, HENRY THE SIXTH PARTS 1, 2 and 3, ROMEO AND JULIET, ENTER WITHOUT SO MUCH AS KNOCKING and SEASONS for the Grin & Tonic Theatre Troupe.
Jason has also directed several theatre productions including DEATH OF A SALESMAN, MY NAME IS JIMI, ST MARY’S, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, COUNTRY ARTS, THE 7 STAGES OF GRIEVING and OEDIPUS DOESN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE for Queensland Theatre. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, THE TRIAL, ROMEO & JULIET, THE ZOO STORY, VS, LIVID, APRIL’S FOOL REDUX, HOODS, SUPER/NATURAL for Grin & Tonic. In 2019 Jason also directed Arthur Miller’s towering classic DEATH OF A SALESMAN for Queensland Theatre.
Jason was awarded the Media and Entertainment Arts Alliance Award for Best Actor in 2002 and was nominated for Best Actor in the 2017 Helpmann Awards for his performance in Michael Gow’s ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY. Jason is the current Artistic Director of The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe and the Queensland Board Member for MEAA.
